Paint The Town Red (Red Mahogany)

I live in a small Lakeside community that has been facing a rebuild of their Dams after Hurricane Sandy Destroyed them. All of the benches and fixtures on the property looked as if they were from the original date of creation, 1956.

Considering the community was facing a multi-million dollar expense, you cant blame anyone for neglecting the condition of the beaches if there wasn't any water in the lakes to enjoy. There were two benches that caught my eye. Both of which were painted with what appeared to be some kind of reddish latex paint over top of treated wood. It certainly served its use. I can imagine the generations of parents sitting there reading a book while watching their kids enjoying the swings or throwing a frisbee. Now I should mention, I do volunteer my time on the local board and as I was taught in my younger years, " If you have a skill and you can help others, DO IT! ". As I am a painter, I decided to put my skill to use for the betterment of the community. pay homage to the generations prior, I decided to use a "Red Mahogany" oil based stain on the lumber since the previous boards were painted a reddish color. To insure that the bench would last another two generations, I applied High Gloss oil based polyurethane over top of the stained lumber. Ultimately, it provided a new bench with a "vintage look" as if it had been that way the entire time.
